Of course, our students often choose to excel which is why we offer Honors, Advanced Placement (AP) and Dual Enrollment opportunities. Students who take Honors and AP classes will have the opportunity to increase their GPA. In the calculation, an extra point will be added to any approved course in which a student receives a “C” or better. For example, a “B” in an AP Calculus class will have a point value of 4 instead of 3. Currently, we offer AP US HIstory, AP Calculus, Honors English 10, 11 and 12.
A Dual Credit Course is a college course taken in high school which allows our students to earn high school and college credit simultaneously and have their grade reported on both their Jim Elliot transcript and a college transcript. Dual enrollment opportunities are available through different institutions (including San Joaquin Delta Community College- College Early Start Program), but must be approved by the academic advisor and principal. Courses may not replace requirements offered at Jim Elliot Christian High School.
The California Scholarship Federation was founded in 1921 to recognize academic accomplishments. At graduation, students who have been a member of CSF for 4 out of 6 semesters during 10th, 11th and 12th grade will be recognized as a Sealbearer at graduation. This honor provides students with a gold seal on their diploma, a gold stole to be worn at graduation ceremony, recognition at Senior Awards Night and eligibility for CSF scholarships. One semester of membership must be during senior year. Membership will be granted to students who meet the following: CSF academic standards, completion of application each semester, CSF membership fee, mandatory meeting attendance and participation in community service event. For more information, speak to the academic advisor. All meetings will be publicized in the Eagle Press and morning announcements.
A Block “E” for Academics will be awarded to students who earn a GPA of 3.8 or higher for two consecutive semesters in the same school year. Students who accomplish this will be invited to a special ceremony and presented with a Block “E”. Students also have the opportunity to earn bronze, silver and gold pins for additional school years where a GPA of 3.8 or higher has been earned.
Jim Elliot Christian High School is proud to provide curricular offerings that challenge and develop the minds of our students. Students take college preparatory curriculum which can be used to meet the minimum subject requirements of the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) systems.
